March 2010: Every now and again
I stop and wonder what in the world we ever did before
Al Gore created
the internet. I mean, really. How did we
go anywhere? Get price
comparisons? Find out how
stuff works and where to get it?
I visit the world wide web at least 25 times every single day, and I
almost always get an answer to a specific question, learn something
completely new (to me anyway), or buy something free of taxes and
shipping. And yet, I am stuck in the technological dark ages. I don't
know how to Twitter, and I never Tweet. I don't know Facebook from
MySpace, and I'm clueless as to why I'd care. I can't send a text
message from my cell phone... in fact, I really don't know where my cell
phone is, much less its charger. I don't blog, Skype, or Flickr. I don't
have a Blackberry, iPod, or DS. I found YouTube once, but somehow
wandered from a video of Susan Garrett's excellent
Bad Dog Trainer
impersonation to completely useless (to me anyway) spectacular airplane
landings. ENOUGH! Spare me, Al. I have become my father, with little
tolerance for the avalanche of new technology making unlikely promises,
requiring costly equipment and upgrades, and delivering solutions to
problems I didn't even realize I had. So I'll just stick with this
little web site for now, update my little pictures, and push the social
networking off on Glady, who is now officially in charge of
PDX's Facebook presence. Go visit HER when you get a chance. Me and
the dogs are hanging out here! -- Bev
